How to Flawlessly Capture the Right Details on Your Resume -

The most effective method to Flawlessly Capture the Right Details on Your Resume - In the event that you follow our blog routinely, you realize that we stress the significance of remembering point by point portrayals of your past expert achievements for your resume. While this is a basic thought, seeing how to execute it adequately entangles many individuals as they compose their documents. With that as a main priority, we should play a series of Good subtleties versus Awful subtleties. Great subtleties The kinds of data resumes ought to incorporateâ€"however frequently don'tâ€"are things like the accompanying: - what number individuals report to you? - How much cash did you make for your last organization? - How have you set aside your bosses cash before? - Were you enlisted or advanced by past bosses? - What uncommon ventures or undertakings have you been decided to finish? - What have you achieved that was well beyond your set of working responsibilities? Terrible subtleties At the point when individuals remember an excess of data for their resumes, it ordinarily falls into these classes: - The verbatim name of the office and boss you announced to. Unless you report legitimately to Mark Zuckerberg or somebody similarly celebrated, you can utilize a general title like VP-Marketing or Director of Branding to pass on your status in the organization. - Outdated insights regarding your school experience. If you've been out of school for a long time, your school GPA is old news. Ditto the name of the particular school of your college that you joined in, except if it's an exceptionally positioned, broadly unmistakable program, e.g., the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania. - Personal insights regarding your life. If holes on your resume are because of something like taking individual downtime to think about an evil relative, it doesn't make a difference what their conclusion was. Keep your clarification as brief as could be expected under the circumstances. A compelling resume finds some kind of harmony between giving particulars that explain how significant you are as a worker, while simultaneously summing up your achievements such that sounds good to a wide audience. To be certain your resume does exclude awful subtleties, make it a point to let another arrangement of eyes edit it.

An Unreliable Professional Insanity Test

An Unreliable Professional Insanity Test Craziness: doing likewise again and again and anticipating various outcomes.â€" dishonestly ascribed to Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin Youre acquainted with the oft-conjured saying Insanity is doing likewise again and again, and anticipating various outcomes. Its mentioned and trumpeted by concerned companions or associates when you stay with an attempt to seal the deal that never works, decline to switch your cologne when it pulls in just mosquitoes, continue having crackheadforever@druggie.com as your business contact email (while never getting an answer) or dress too calmly for all your prospective employee meetings, which turn into dead end. Nonetheless, as profession or life exhortation, that perception is truly exaggerated and prone to raise a ruckus whenever taken and aimlessly followed on dazzle confidence, except if the cases where it is legitimate are efficiently coaxed out from the ones wherein it isnt. For instance, envision how far Thomas Edison would have gotten with the innovation of the fiber based radiant light on the off chance that he quit one test short of the complete that surpass 1600â€"only one shy of his eventually fruitful fiber test materials test. The Smithsonian history of Edison and the light could never have been composed as follows: One extreme piece was finding the correct material for the filamentthat little wire inside the light. He filled in excess of 40,000 pages with notes before he at long last had a bulb that withstood a 40 hour test in his research facility. (10) In 1879, in the wake of testing more that 1600 materials for the correct fiber, including coconut fiber, fishing line, and even hairs from a companions facial hair, Edison and his laborers at last made sense of what to use for the filamentcarbonized bamboo. (All things considered, being truly savvy, Edison presumably would have legitimized such tireless constancy in light of the fact that no two of the preliminaries were actually the equivalent, either as for the materials tried or the convention followed. More on this, underneath.) The Cases of Stephen King and Mother Nature What about water-boarding or electro-stunning investigative specialists, on the off chance that they surrendered after just a few cross examinations? At that point there are the instances of industrious writers, for example, Stephen King, JK Rowling who made progress simply after endless entries of similar works, through similar sorts of channels, enduring similar sorts of dismissal. Is You gotta do the numbers! any less substantial as a guideline of exertion? For instance, consider Carrieâ€"Kings first (in the end) distributed novel: His previously distributed novel was dismissed so often that King gathered the going with notes on a spike in his room. It was at long last distributed in 1974 with a print run of 30,000 duplicates. At the point when the soft cover adaptation was discharged a year later, it sold over a million duplicates in a year. (Passage from The dismissal letters: how distributers scorned 11 extraordinary creators?, The Telegraph, June 5, 2014) Indeed, even Mother Nature scarcely regards the madness rule as proverbial. Think about metal exhaustion: Is it crazy to anticipate that a bit of metal should break neatly in the wake of being over and again twisted and fixed a similar way, despite the fact that that doesnt occur on the initial dozen endeavors? Turn around the inquiry: Is it crazy to be worried about conceivable metal weariness in built structures? Factually Insane? Shouldn't something be said about a factual form of the craziness rule?â€" It is crazy to do something very similar again and again, yet to expect an alternate outcome iin over X% of the endeavors. At what estimation of X does determination or reiteration become nutty? For instance, mailing out fliers promoting your activity postings and work administrationsâ€"is a 1% reaction rate sanely legitimate? In cases like these, in which levelheadedness is measured regarding money saving advantage proportions or contrasts, or equal the initial investment focuses, it is anything but difficult to ascertain the net addition, shortfall or earn back the original investment reaction rateâ€"as far as deals and arrangementsâ€"required to take care of the expenses. Nonetheless, in situations that come up short on a handily determined, adapted proportion of net increase or deficit, the measurable madness standard gets more enthusiastically to indicate an estimation of X for. Assume you know ahead of time that 1,000 tryouts are required on normal to land the sort of part you need in a Broadway melodic. Is it crazy to attempt even once, not to mention multiple times? You could attempt to count transportation, head shot, closet, pausing, opportunity and different expenses, weighed against the money and different awards of handling a section, however the computation is probably not going to be spotless and straightforward. Furthermore, there is the (fanciful) arrogance that persuades you that the normal details and chances apply just for normal individuals, not for you. This last thought can be significant and fills in as a suggestion to be as goal and exact as conceivable while evaluating ones own odds, in case the type of craziness that you surrender to is hallucinating, if not absolutely factual. The helpfulness of any rule or saying is limited and characterized by its legitimate area, the limit and foundation conditions essential for its reality and pertinence, and by the cases and areas wherein it doesn't hold. An examination of Haste makes waste and He who delays is lostwith regard to the spaces and limit conditions in which they do and don't holdâ€"will plentifully represent that reality. All in all, shouldn't something be said about the redundancy based madness test? What are the essentials, limits, conditions and areas in and under which it does (or doesn't) hold? Maximal particularity condition: Revisit Edisons experimentation with lights and their fibers. On the off chance that each trial preliminary with a fiber type contrasted from the others in some basic manner, e.g., level of electrical conductivity of the material or the material itself, at that point Edison couldn't be blamed for doing likewise and anticipating an alternate outcome, despite the fact that at an increasingly conceptual degree of depiction he was without a doubt doing likewise again and againâ€"to be specific, trying light materials to locate a triumphant mix. Henceforth, a vital condition for the reiteration madness test to apply to a given case is that the preliminaries be depicted with the level of explicitness that at first sight warrants directing them in any case. In the event that there is no level of illustrative explicitness that separates the preliminaries from one another and the preliminaries are yielding the equivalent (coming up short) results, a primer warrant for calling the ingenuity crazy exists (without being either decisive or adequate). Weakness and edge elements: Any arrangement of reiterations that, in spite of the fact that as activities are indistinguishable, make concealed states (e.g., perceptible just through small scale estimations or by methods for refined innovation or investigation, for example, metal weariness, might be famously normalâ€"either to demonstrate or making such an impact or of demonstrating it doesn't exist (when testing adaptable wing joints to guarantee that a similar invalid aftereffect of no snapping is gotten). Neuronal excitation is another representation of this marvel: Is it crazy to over and again invigorate a neuron in the endeavor to get it to fire when each disconnected endeavor to do so falls flat? Actually no, not if the reiterations are sufficiently quick to make an edge terminating impact. (In this example the recurrence or speed of the reiterations and heartbeats is a urgent essential or limit condition for advocating the steadiness and redundancies.) Theres nothing obsessed with doing that. (A comparable line of contention can be confined for minimum amount and cooperative energy wondersâ€"in particular, that continuing including one more piece of something, an alternate outcome, e.g., uncontrolled atomic splitting, a camel with a back broken by the straw that broke the camel's back, or group based conceptualized achievement, will eventuate.) Quality control: Suppose you fabricate parachutes and choose to test all of them, e.g., in an air stream or through rigidity tests, to guarantee security and dependability. Youre doing likewise again and again, however would you say you are anticipating an alternate outcome? No, youre trusting you dont get oneâ€"and are set up to make strides on the off chance that you locate a faulty chute. That is by all accounts an obviously normal activity. However, pauseâ€"on the off chance that it is crazy to do something very similar again and again and anticipate an alternate outcome, isnt it seemingly similarly crazy to continue doing that to guarantee you dont get an alternate outcome? That is on the grounds that a similar affirmation that you objectively ought not expect an alternate outcome is a confirmation that there is no balanced need to test for an alternate outcome, quality control or no quality control. From the stanpoint of this line of argumentation, running thorough quality control tests ought to be as crazy as testing a bucket of golf balls to see whether they fall 32 feet/sec2 when discharged from a given tallness or sniff testing your egg serving of mixed greens like clockwork. In any case, comprehensive quality control testing isn't crazy, despite the fact that it is costlier than factual irregular examining, in any event when the stakes and risk of delivering even one blemished thing are unsatisfactorily high. It might be contended that parachutes and golf balls are extraordinary, on the grounds that a portion of the previous have neglected to open, while no golf ball has ever neglected to fall as anticipated by the laws of attraction and free fall. The takeaway from this line of argumentation is that the rational soundness of diligence may must be characterized in factual terms, per the conversation above, with indicated limit probabilities of disappointment or special cases deciding the level of mental soundness or madness of ingenuity. In the event that, in spite of my investigation, you continue accepting that it is crazy to do something very similar again and again, however anticipate an alternate outcome, attempt re-perusing this article ordinarily. You might be shocked by the outcome despite the fact that, in spite of the misattribution of the madness guideline

Motivational Quotes for HR, Recruiting and Leadership - Workology

Motivational Quotes for HR, Recruiting and Leadership Best Inspirational Quotes for HR, Leadership, and Recruiting We all need motivation from time to time, and for myself, I have found that sometimes visual quotes and aids are the best way to get me fired up, motivated, and ready to go quickly without a lot of time spent reading, listening to podcasts or talking to a peer or mentor. Im not saying that those things are not important, however, sometimes you just need a little kick in the pants to help push you through the day. Maybe its just enough to help you sludge through the pile of emails you have or working through that ever-growing to-do list. I like to start my day with a motivational quote, and every day I arrive at my coworking space, Duo Works, I see the above quote from Vince Lombardi. 8 questions to help set your plan for the new year

8 inquiries to help set your arrangement for the new year 8 inquiries to help set your arrangement for the new year New Year's Eve has gone back and forth. It's an interesting night. You are left with a twinge of regret and a twinge of expectation. Individuals move to gatherings and boulevards with champagne in their grasp encompassed by 150 of their dearest companions to watch a ball drop somewhere in the range of 10 to 141 feet, while they attempt to overlook that they didn't achieve a year ago's goals and set lower bar goals for the coming year. Really the most joyful individuals of the night are the cabbies who are out in scores to drive all the partiers home where they invite the following day with a cerebral pain, little review of their pared back determination which sounds something like I won't drink caffeine when the Penguins have a full solid list and a pork shank that should be roasted. Most goals don't work out as intended in light of the fact that they are simply ideas. I will get in shape and I will find another line of work are thoughts. I will go to the exercise center for an hour t hree times each week and I will characterize my transferable abilities and make a network of organizations that line up with my qualities are goals.Growth and satisfaction originate from mindfulness, self-guideline, self-supporting and adjusting objectives to values. The following are a couple of intelligent inquiries that assist you with setting purpose for the year dependent on acknowledgment. Perhaps everything is acceptable? Furthermore, perhaps there is space for careful development and experience. What happened a year ago grinding away? What happened a year ago in your connections? What happened a year ago with your self-awareness? What happened a year ago socially? What are you prepared to desert? What do you understand most about a year ago? What is one thing you need this year? What is the principal thing you will do to get it? Satisfaction isn't outside watching a ball drop. Satisfaction is inside you requesting to be liberated. By what method will you quit looking outside and open your inner windows to smell natural air and permit chance to flood you with wonder? At this moment you can proceed onward to your plan for the day. Or on the other hand you can go through 15 minutes turning into an idea head on your future. In case you don't know how you'll end 2019 you are as of now there. A Guide to Gracefully Handling Weird Interview Questions

A Guide to Gracefully Handling Weird Interview Questions If you get called in for a job interview at soap company Method, youll likely be asked about how you would keep the company weird if hired. Its not exactly on anyones list of common job interview questions.According to a QA with Method co-founder Eric Ryan in this months Inc., its a question they ask because they want to get a sense of who this person really is. One candidate responded by asking staffers to wait outside while he designed a Method-themed scavenger hunt. Think you could compete with that?Ryan isnt the only interviewer whos fond of unconventional questions. Here are a few other weird (but not completely inappropriate) questions that my clients have faced over the years:If you could have lunch with any historical figure, living or dead, who would you share a turkey club with?If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?Demonstrate your most unusual talent. Right now.Tell me something fascinating about you thats not on your resume.Whats your favorite color and wha t does that say about you?Tell me about a life-changing moment.Whos your role model and why?Are these questions designed as a form of torture? Sometimes, perhaps. But the point is usually to get you to drop your interview pose and show a bit of your true personality. Its a more creative alternative to asking you about your favorite book, movie, or hobby. Many candidates now come prepared with an interview-friendly favorite book and/or favorite hobby.Interviewers have grown bored of hearing about your inoffensive loves of golf, tennis, and spending time with friends, so theyve come up with new approaches.A weird question may also be a way to see how you think on your feet. If you seem just a little too rehearsed, your interviewer may want to shake things up and see if they can make you sweat. This is more common in interviews for sales positions and other roles that require improvisation skills and composure under pressure. How can you prepare yourself to deal with weird interview que stions? Well, you can research the company and learn as much as you can about their job interview process. If youre interviewing at Method , for example, be prepared to talk about what makes you weird. Check out Glassdoor to see if others have reported unusual questions.Otherwise, you really cant prepare for weird interview questions and you probably shouldnt. However, be aware that if you hear a question like the ones above, you are likely dealing with a non-traditional interviewer who is looking for what makes you stand out from the crowd.Dont let it throw you. Follow the interviewers lead and share your fascination with Orson Welles, your resemblance to a sea otter, or your ability to sing Happy Birthday in Greek. Play along just steer clear of controversial topics (politics, religion, information about your personal life, dirty jokes). If theyre asking you this question, theyre probably taking a similar approach with other candidates. Do your best with it, but dont overthink it. Focus your time and energy on preparing great answers for the questions about your strengths, accomplishments, and career goals. These are the topics that really matter when it comes to making a hiring decision. However, your ability to handle weird interview questions with some humor and confidence could help set you apart from another candidate with similarly stellar qualifications. Now we want to hear from you: Whats the weirdest interview question youve been asked and how did you respond? Expatriating Talent in Offshore Wind

Expatriating Talent in Offshore Wind Expatriating Talent in Offshore Wind 12 Apr 2018 John Kennedy Europe’s offshore wind market has long since developed to maturity, but it is heartening to see the sector enjoying abundant growth across other international sectors. In the Far East contracts are being signed with turbine suppliers, in the Middle East renewable programs have been announces by Saudi and Emirati governments, and even the US is waking up to the lowered cost of developing such a crucial source of energy on the Atlantic coast. Similar progress is being made across Japan and the BRIC nations. Not only will this stimulate local economies, creating jobs and supply chains, it’s also great news for our future global carbon footprint. It’s safe to say that the offshore wind market is exploding - professionals in the sector with an international outlook are rubbing their hands with glee at the prospects. These global developments will give individuals and organisations alike the opportunity to export their skill sets. The excitement and optimism seem reminiscent of the globalization of the oil and gas sector more than half a century ago. Eden Scott works with individuals to achieve their dreams of taking advantage of these prospects and living the expatriate lifestyle. Within our Clean Energy division, we are making great strides to develop vendor partnerships in these burgeoning regions. Our divisional efforts are becoming central to bridging the gap between the available talent and prospects in the sector, but we also realise the importance of adapting to the challenges of moving abroad. Therefore, we also have an in-house expatriation consultant who professionally advises on broad subject areas such as working culture, living conditions and financial comparisons.   Eden Scott has supplied both contract and permanent resource to offshore wind projects in the UK, France, Holland, and Germany. Many of our long-standing local clients are switching their focus to include emerging overseas markets and seeking proven expertise to lead the charge. To quote the Department of International Trade, “exporting is great!”.   From a UK perspective, there’s a real push for overseas development and the wind sector is a perfect platform for the supply chain/talent pool to look at these markets. Further, with the continued low value of the Pound, you have to ask, why not export or expatriate? What’s stopping you? It was interesting to read the UK Government’s position in the Industrial Strategy white paper (November 2017): “We will maximize the advantages for UK industry from the global shift to clean growth â€" through leading the world in the development, manufacture and use of low carbon technologies systems.” There have also been some high-profile branding decisions relating to wind energy, such as Dong Energy and Statoil rebranding to reflect their clean energy aspirations. Scotland, and the UK as a whole, is a developing offshore wind energy success story and it’s encouraging to see the rest of the world beginning to follow suit. The industry in Scotland is flourishing, with Beatrice and Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm under construction, and with Moray East and Nearth N’Goithe already having secured investment contracts. There are other exciting projects moving forward such as Inchcape, Seagreen and Moray West. Eden Scott is looking forward to continuing to maximise the UK sector opportunities for our clients and candidates as we join a host of organisations throughout the supply chain who are now in a fantastic position to export. So what comes next if you are a job seeker in the sector and aspire for your next assignment to be overseas? If you have been part of the European story you will have learned lessons and already be in a great position to apply yourself elsewhere. After living in the Middle East for more than 20 years and coordinated hundreds of international mobilizations, I do however see patterns in where things fall flat, so I have thrown together a collection of points that you might find useful if you are thinking of making that move: Have you spoken to your family? This may seem obvious, but you really need to speak to your family about any kind of move abroad! The economic and lifestyle changes may all be thought through, but making commitments to move overseas will undoubtedly affect your relationships with your nearest and dearest. Is your partner happy that you are working on a supply vessel on strange seas?   Are your children happy to move schools? Have you asked them again? Despite recruiting internationally for more than a decade, I am still surprised by the number of candidates that get itchy feet at the offer stage because they haven’t spoken to their loved ones about such implications. Don’t rush to judgement on the financial package. Too many candidates look at the baseline salary and their assessment stops there. There’s much more to consider. What are your tax implications? Does your future employer subsidise your living costs? What are those living costs? Will your home property work for you financially while you are away? Run it all into a spreadsheet - the output calculation may surprise you. Be patient. At every stage of the expatriation process recruitment lead times are, on average, slower than what they would be if you were moving within-country. Employers invest heavily in things like flights, insurances and legal/visa proceedings, and so in their assessment of you they have much to lose if the introduction is rushed. Expect approvals to run through many, many hands. Once you get to the enviable stage of receiving an offer it can still be several months to receive your paperwork to mobilize. Try to establish timelines earlier in the process so you can effectively manage such a major transition. Be a flexible worker. You are entering a new work culture that may be incomparable to any assignment you have been involved with in the past. The better employers will give you some guidance regarding such challenges during the interview process, but adaptiveness is key. For example, establish in advance if your role involves the management of multiple project stakeholders. What about safety culture? Will deviances in country legislation effect your work? The internet-age gives us countless orientation material for every country under the sun, so preparedness is key for a successful bedding-in. Doors will open. Think about global trends and what your career history may look like in five to ten years down the line. In Taiwan for example, if you are fortunate enough to be involved in the first wave of major projects the chances are your skill set will be highly sought after for the projects to come. Perhaps you will even consider conceding slightly on package negotiations if you feel that it gets your foot in the door. It can be too easy to reject opportunities overseas - sometimes the thought of relocation can feel like a mountain to climb. Utilize the contacts around you and don’t be afraid to ask the simplest of questions. If you're interested in pursuing a role in renewable energy, whether in the UK or abroad, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0131 550 1154 or at John.Kennedy@EdenScott.com.

7 Things Star Performers at Work Do Before Noon

7 Things Star Performers at Work Do Before Noon Do you battle attempting to find that morning inspiration? Youre not the only one. It tends to be difficult to make yourself move in the early hours of the day, particularly on the off chance that you do not have the fervor important to do as such in your work environment. Be that as it may, there are simple approaches to battle this. (What's more, one comes Venus Williams-recommended!)Below, weve delineated seven things fruitful individuals do to take advantage of their work day a long time before lunchtime.1. They set explicit goals.Sabir Peele, the originator of Mens Style Pro, revealed to Business Insider he separates his day in two parts so as to build productivity.I list a limit of 10 errands that I need to pound by early afternoon, he said. To remain intrigued by what Im doing, I do the most significant undertakings at the highest point of every hour and afterward handle messages. After I finish two assignments, I do 20 push-ups.Splitting your day up like Peele cans help keep things fascinating and cause the work day to appear to be shorter (push-ups optional).2. They take one little break. In expansion to scratching things off their work plan for the day, effective individuals enjoy a little reprieve to accomplish something for themselves. Life and work is about equalization (we know youve heard that previously!), and its critical to not permit yourself to get wore out before noon. Enjoy a little reprieve: ruminate in your office, go for a stroll around the square, go get your most loved frosted espresso, or in any case treat yourself.3. They stay positive. If you are languid or over-worked, it tends to be anything but difficult to be negative. Be that as it may, rather than concentrating on the negative parts of your life at this moment, transform your considerations into positives. At the point when you get baffled or pushed or feel like you basically dont have enough time in the day, take a little second to record the things about your activity you are appreciative for. Revisit the rundown each time you need a little pick-me-up!4. They do their most feared task first. It can be anything but difficult to tarry on that feared task until the finish of your day which implies it will be in your mind for whatever length of time that you decide to put it off. This can add pointless pressure and pessimism to your day, and you dont need that. Do your least alluring assignment when you get in the workplace, and afterward the remainder of your day will feel like a breeze.5. Theyre consistently centered around improving.According to Venus Williams, she is continually contemplating what she needs to do next so as to continue improving. She revealed to Fast Company, Its a habit, yet I generally consider how to show signs of improvement. Everything is designed for that. Ask yourself: whats one thing you can do with the goal of showing signs of improvement before noon?6. They get the opportunity to work early.Youve heard that the timely riser get s the worm, and as a rule, its actual. Fruitful individuals get the opportunity to work prior and begin on that plan for the day sooner. A ultra-gainful day doesnt start by hitting rest and afterward unavoidably showing up after the expected time to the workplace, worried about the way that your day is currently messed up. Do what should be never really up right on time (counting by hitting the sack prior if necessary).7. They complete something off their own plan for the day, too.If your life feels like it just spins around work, it can get disheartening. Make an individual plan for the day of a couple of things you need to achieve before early afternoon, too, regardless of whether its working out, perusing the news or tuning in to a web recording. Youll feel achieved and just as youve accomplished a little self-awareness notwithstanding the expert. So check it off that rundown and proceed onward to your working environment objectives!- -

Your cover letter is your chance to really sell yourself as an employee and to elaborate on your skills and experience in a way that makes them so much more relevant to the role you are applying for than on your resume. You can also inject a bit of personality into your cover letter and give a bit of an insight into the type of individual you are, setting yourself out from competition. If youre feeling a bit stumped however,  Aimee Bateman of Career Cake has come up with 5 really helpful steps to writing an incredible cover letter to help you on your way. 1. Make it personal Try to avoid addressing letters to Sir/Madam/To Whom it May Concern, as it is incredibly impersonal and gives the impression that you are sending the letters out to anyone and everyone. Take the time to do your research and find out the hiring managers  name. It shouldnt be too difficult to find this information, as a lot of companies will have staff details on their website or you can usually find out with a quick Google search or through LinkedIn. If all fails, you can always give the office a call and someone there may be able to help you. 2. Tell them why  you want to work there Start off by being  specific about what role you are applying for as quite often, particularly in large companies, there will be multiple vacancies at one time and they may be receiving a high volume of applications. You should then let them know why you chose to apply for a job with them and show that you are genuinely interested in the company. You dont want them to think that they are just one of dozens of businesses you have sent a letter out to, so make  them feel like they are the only one you want to work for. Avoid buzzwords as theyve probably heard them all before, and rather find something significant and personal to their company that you admire. You should be able to find out information about past projects they have completed and their company values on their website and by following their activity on social media. 3. Tell them why they should hire you Now its your turn to big yourself up. You need to convince them that you are the one for the job. Identify a list of attributes that you want to promote about yourself and how you want employers to perceive you. You can then compare this with the skills and experience asked for in the job description and elaborate on the relevant qualities you possess. Tell them what you can do for them and how you can add value to the business with use of specific examples. 4. Show passion You need to be enthusiastic and show them that you really want the opportunity. Your choice of language can help to do so, for example I would love  the opportunity to discuss this further. Be passionate about your career and demonstrate your ambition to progress at  the company. 5. Be friendly and polite People want to work with individuals who are friendly and easy to get along with, so try to show this side of you in your cover letter. Its hard to really get across your personality on paper, but being polite and showing a bit of consideration for  the hiring manager/recruiter  can go a long way. You can do this by thanking them for their time considering  your application or by wishing them luck filling the role, as this will demonstrate that you respect how others feel and are willing to help. 6 super handy writing apps thatll prep you for your journalism internship - Debut

6 super handy writing apps thatll prep you for your journalism internship - Debut Wow, doesnt time fly when youre having fun? Summers here and its almost time to start that journalism internship. But whats this? With the day of reckoning just around the corner, you havent written anything since you did your last exam essay. Its gonna be okay, young one. You just have to whip yourself back into writing shape again. Luckily, there are a ton of neat little apps out there to help you do just that. Here are just a few: Cleartext Its important to remember simplicity is the key to good journalism. When writing a piece, you can sometimes overreach with your vocabulary and succeed only in befuddling your readership (whoops, sorry). Cleartext is a neat little text editor that only lets you use the one thousand most common words in the English language to express your points. Itll help you find synonyms for those fancy long words and make your writing way more accessible. Flowstate A truly dangerous writing app. For those who need a nuclear option to ensure they stay focused on whatever theyre writing. Flowstate has no option to save your work and, horrifyingly, it deletes all your text if you stop typing for whatever reason. A deadly focus is crucial on a journalism internship. Here, youll learn it the hard way. GradeProof Ah, robots. Is there anything they cant do? Gradeproof is a must-have browser extension that uses artificial intelligence to check the spelling, grammar, and readability of anything you write. And get this: the more you type, the better the advice it gives you. You might not want to rely on it too much for article writing, but truly a life-saver when youre working on that crucial cover letter. Rough Draft Ever have second thoughts about your work and then have  third thoughts? Ever rewrite something from an essay and then realise you were right the first time? First Draft is the app for you. In their words, it makes editing difficult so it can make writing easy. What that means is they make it impossible to delete your mistake just to strike through them. It gets you out of that mindset of it being a final version and lets your ideas flow freely. And if you end up liking it, you can take the mistakes out with one click. Refly Refly might just be the ultimate app for any would-be web journalist out there, but its only available on Macs sadly. Its a little advanced but if youre looking to create some serious content, its your guardian angel. Itll improve your productivity, your tone of voice, help you with search engine optimisation and more. Writeometer Little and often. Thats the key to building up skills for a journalism internship, right? Well, Writeometer is here to hold you to that. Set the amount that you want to write (up to 1,000 words) and itll encourage you to write that much every day. Its how good writers get better. Itll even reward you with virtual pieces of guava! Yum. How to answer the toughest interview questions - Hallie Crawford

How to answer the toughest interview questions In the next few blogs, we will show you how to respond to some of the toughest interview questions that stump many job seekers. Keep in mind that while you can prepare for specific questions during an interview, you can’t predict everything they are going to ask. But thinking about some of these more difficult questions will help you manage those awkward moments during an interview. Here are three of them to get you started: What aspects of your previous jobs have you disliked? This is similar to the “tell us about your weaknesses” question. You cant say you have none, and you cant say something fake like “I work too hard.” You need to be honest here, but there are guidelines to follow. Prepare your answer so it comes across in a positive, productive way and not as bashing your former employer. Choose things that are about the job itself, so youre focusing on things that dont come across as talking badly about people, which isnt necessary or helpful. Things like the lack of structure, process or clear direction for your department is one example. And, when you respond, give them what you want to have instead and preferably, as part of the reason you are interested in their position. Tell me about yourself? Start by providing a quick summary of your experience and professional history. “My background and degree is in X. My expertise and passion lies in XXX. At XX company I handled XX projects, at my current position I manage XXX.Give them the highlights of your professional history and let them know why youre excited to be interviewing with them and how it relates to your career goals and passion. Where do you see yourself in five years? You need to have an answer for this and it needs to be professional not personal. The catch is, if you dont see yourself at their organization in 5 years what do you say? First, if thats the case you need to consider if applying for this job is the right thing to do in the first place, is it the right fit? And if the answer is still yes you want to apply, but you want to move on to another organization in 5 years, focus your goal instead on the role-in general-that you want to be in within 5 years. You dont have to say I will be here for the next 10 years, instead focus on your career goals, the type of role you want to be in, and what you want to have accomplished along the way. Resume Writing For Lawyers - Tips For Writing Your Resume

Resume Writing For Lawyers - Tips For Writing Your ResumeThis is a question that you are likely to ask yourself if you are applying for a job with a law firm. If you know how to write a good resume, you may find yourself being considered for an entry-level position. If you have been in the same job for at least two years, your resume will look better than those without much experience. If you already work for a current law firm, you will be able to obtain a copy of their written guidelines for preparing resumes. If you don't want to wait, you should probably have a current resume prepared. The best ones are usually tailored to the job you have applied for. Make sure it does not contain any mistakes, such as saying you were an assistant rather than an associate or vice president.Be careful not to forget to include your education level. It is important to emphasize this point because a relatively junior lawyer can already be in a competitive job market. For the job you are applying for, you will need to add information about your past and present employment. However, be careful not to list your past employer under an inappropriate section, such as being in another state or if you worked in an agency or government agency.Include information about your educational background and job experience. For jobs, you should specify what type of lawyer you are looking for as well as whether you have special skills that are needed, for example forensic services or on-site legal services. You should make sure that the resume includes appropriate contact information. Usually, lawyers require the employment number, but a personal email address can be acceptable. Many firms also ask for the social security number. In most cases, a professional resume needs a little more documentation than a formal text with no reference to your previous employment. This will help clarify the purpose of the resume.

Picking the Right Career

Picking the Right Career So many of us go to work, do what we’re paid to do, punch out, and go home. But are we happy? If the chronology of your day is more or less what I just described, chances are you’re not â€" even if you pretend to be. On the other hand, if you exhibit a majority of the following traits while you’re at work, the odds are good that you not only enjoy your job â€" but you’ve also picked a career that’s right for you: You Go the Extra Mile Without Being Asked People who love their jobs don’t have to be asked to do something. Their overall sense of job satisfaction makes them more efficient; so they breeze through tasks because they don’t view them as chores. They appreciate that what they put off today will have to be done tomorrow. And they recognize that good things come to good employees who go above and beyond. Cynics call them “brown-nosers,” but eventually they end up calling them “boss.” You Put in Extra Hours to Get Things Done on Time People who are halfway to the parking lot as soon as that clock strikes 5 p.m. aren’t helping their coworkers who are stuck picking up the slack â€" and it’s not the best strategy for getting a raise or promotion either. The good news is it’s possible to put in extra time to get things done correctly and by the deadline, and still manage to enjoy a decent work/life balance. You Encourage and Recognize the Work of Others You know there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’ and understand that encouragement and praise helps keep everybody motivated. You let people know that you appreciate them and all of the hard work they do. When people feel like they’re being positively recognized for their efforts, it’ll show. You Share the Credit People who are happy at their place of employment realize that it takes a village to keep all the parts moving. They understand that even when they’re working alone on a project, there are bound to be at least a few people who helped them along the way whether it’s a secretary, assistant, coworker, or an intern â€" which is why they always say “thank you” when the time comes to solidify their status as a team player. You Speak Positively About Your Job Outside The Office You know that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. People who love their jobs never badmouth it â€" or any aspect of it â€" and instead find positive solutions to conflicts that arise. “Outside of work, they become great brand ambassadors for your company. They talk to their friends, families, and strangers about the work they’re doing and even say that they ‘love’ their jobs,” says Shayleen Stuto, talent coordinator for TechnologyAdvice. You Steer Coworkers Toward a Path of Success If you’re successful at what you do, you should want other people to be successful too. People who love their jobs are eager to help their coworkers get a leg up by mentoring them, offering assistance if they have time, helping them catch up after a few days out of the office, checking in from time to time to make sure everything is on track personally and professionally, and speaking positively about them to superiors. They understand that when the whole team is successful, so are the individual players â€" not the other way around. You Learn New Skills to Enhance Your Performance You eagerly embrace learning new skills because it makes you better at what you do. You also understand that advancing the company cause through your own continued education sends a message to your superiors that you care about your company’s progress and growth, and that you want to be a catalyst for that. As Stuto notes, for people who love their jobs, “Reading articles and books relevant to their position, or attending industry events and seminars aren’t chores, but areas of enjoyment and learning.” You Inspire Others to Perform Better People who love their job aren’t afraid to show it â€" in all aspects of their performance. “People who love their jobs are passionate about them,” says David Niu, CEO and founder of TINYpulse. “They come to work with a great attitude that inspires others around them. Their passion shows in the quality of their work. And when people are content and passionate about their professional life, it flows into their personal life as well.” More From Len Penzo dot Com: The Pros and Cons of Working From Home How Kids Can Eliminate Student Loan Debt BEFORE Starting College A First-Time Buyer’s Guide for Gold and Silver
